Professor Dhanwant Gomez is an experienced consultant hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) and general surgeon based in Nottinghamshire. He specialises in minimally invasive, day-case laparoscopic procedures such as gallbladder removal and hernia repairs, delivering care with a patient-focused approach and achieving excellent clinical outcomes.
Beyond day-case surgeries, he performs complex operations on the liver, pancreas, and biliary system and provides second opinions for cancer cases. He is also experienced in managing bile duct injuries following gallbladder surgeries.
Currently, Professor Gomez serves as the clinical lead for neuroendocrine tumours and the honorary secretary of the Great Britain and Ireland HPB Association (GBIHPBA). Previously, he has held roles as HPB Cancer and Governance Lead, Chair of the East Midlands HPB Expert Committee Advisory Group, and East Midlands representative for the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO).
A 2002 graduate of the Leeds University School of Medicine, Professor Gomez became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2011. He earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) for his research on liver regeneration and gained comprehensive HPB training in Leeds, Nottingham, and Liverpool.
In addition to training junior surgeons, Professor Gomez actively contributes to liver and pancreas cancer research and is involved in developing innovative surgical medical devices. With numerous publications in HPB surgery, he participates in national and international clinical studies and is a frequent speaker at scientific conferences.
